IOG - Safety

The Safety Industry Operator Group (IOG) meets regularly to discuss safety programs, to ensure the requirements of transport operators across Australia are met and to provide input into other heavy vehicle transport safety related projects.

The Safety IOG is an advisory group only and not a decision making body. There are no fixed members for this group as meeting attendees will vary depending on the projects being discussed.

Projects

Project 1: March-November 2018

The NHVR initiated a project in March 2018 aimed at assisting heavy vehicle operators to voluntarily adopt Safety Management Systems (SMS) methodologies and practices within their organisations. The Safety IOG provided guidance to the NHVR, advising on communications and SMS guidance products to meet the needs of the various segments of the heavy vehicle industry. A major component of this work was to engage with industry in the promotion of adopting an SMS as part of their everyday business, and provide targeted education, guidance and tools to relevant stakeholders – both external and internal to the NHVR. The project is now completed.
