South Australia transitional notices

South Australia transitional notices were gazetted notices, guidelines, exemptions and other legal instruments that were made under state legislation prior to the commencement of the Heavy Vehicle National Law in 2014.

All transitional notices were reviewed in consultation with their originating state and have been:

Access

The original South Australia notice contained a variety of authorisations, exemptions and HML declarations.

These cannot be combined under a single HVNL notice, and many were redundant with conditions that already existed in other notices. Therefore, various components have been distributed among existing and amended notices.

For example, the networks for Road Trains have been taken up by the South Australia Schedule of the national Class 2 Road Train Authorisation Notice 2015, while HML networks have been moved to the South Australia Class 3 (Application of Higher Mass Limits) Mass Exemption Notice 2019 (No.1).

This notice consolidates separate types of dimension exemptions, and brings all relevant networks into a single notice.

Mass, dimension and loading

This new notice replaced the former South Australia HML Declaration. Since access to HML in South Australia does not require IAP, this notice has been written as a class 3 mass exemption that simply applies HML masses.

The new notice also incorporates networks for B-doubles, road trains and modular B-triples that have been brought in from other notices.

A table has been added to match vehicle types to HML networks.

Both South Australian notices relating to Stobie poles have been consolidated into a single HVNL Notice. Also, a new notice has been produced to cover special purpose vehicles that carry Stobie poles.

Together, the new Class 1 and 3 notices replace the old South Australia notices, and allow further access for the SPV’s mentioned above.
