The NHVR issues trailer towing reminder with new amended agricultural notice

The NHVR is reminding agricultural operators and contractors that eligible prime movers or rigid truck combinations are only permitted to tow one agricultural trailer or implement, such as a comb trailer, when travelling under the updated National Class 1 Agricultural Vehicle and Combination Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice 2026 (No.1).

The maximum combination length under the notice is up to 35 metres, based on the combination type and agricultural zones.

In the lead up to harvest season, operators and contractors are urged to plan their journeys in advance given eligible combinations under the notice can travel to maximum speeds of 25km/h or 50km/h, based on the load and braking capability of the unit.

The amended National Class 1 Agricultural Vehicle and Combination Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice 2026 (No.1) aims to simplify the legislation and reiterate the conditions and requirements of this notice.

The notice continues to provide improved road access and select mass and dimension exemptions to eligible agricultural vehicles and combinations in designated agricultural heavy vehicle zones. Eligible vehicles and combinations, such as a combine harvester towing a comb trailer and compressor trailer, or a tractor towing an air seeder combination will still be permitted to travel on agricultural zones under the notice.
