2024 Heavy Vehicle Industry Safety Survey
If you work within the heavy vehicle industry the NHVR wants to hear from you!
What is it?
The survey is to help the NHVR to understand how participants in the heavy vehicle industry are currently managing their safety responsibilities and what has changed over time. This is the fourth survey.
Why has the survey been sent to my email address?
The survey link was sent to Customers of the NHVR and to email addresses of those with a registered heavy vehicle.
Why should you participate?
Your participation helps ensure the NHVR adapts and appropriately focus future support to industry through information, education and safety initiatives.
How long does the survey take to complete?
The survey takes up to 15 minutes to complete.
I had to stop doing the survey part way through. How do I get back in to finish it?
Click on the link that you were originally sent and you will be able to continue where you left off.
If you have used the link on the NHVR webpage or via the QR code you need to finish the survey in one go.
How can I be sure the NHVR (or the company I work for) won’t know what I’ve said?
The Safety Survey is being facilitated by Insync, an independent provider, and confidentiality is assured. Insync's Privacy Policy and the NHVR’s Privacy Policy comply with Australian legislation, and this prohibits the provision of survey responses to the responder’s organisation or any third party in a manner which would allow responses to be linked back to them.
My coworkers weren’t sent a link to the survey. How can they fill it out?
They can go to the NHVR website and follow the link provided or you can forward the section of the email that you were sent.

2022 Heavy Vehicle Industry Safety Survey
In 2022 the NHVR conducted an Industry Safety Survey to measure the extent to which businesses within the heavy vehicle industry have implemented a basic Safety Management System (SMS).
Nearly 6,000 people responded from a wide cross section of industry employees, including drivers, managers and operators.
The survey questions explored the following topics:
- safety risk management
- safety assurance
- safety promotion and training
- frequency and review of safety practices.
The survey also asked about industry understanding of vehicle safety technologies.
