Manage a PBS Vehicle Approval (VA)

Transfer a PBS VA

Have you purchased an existing PBS combination that already has a VA?

If so, transferring the PBS Vehicle Approval to your name may be necessary. Note that depending on the issued date of your PBS VA, a transfer may not be necessary.

Remove an operator name from a PBS VA

Is your company's name currently listed on a PBS VA?

If your PBS VA displays your company name on the front page and you wish to have it removed, complete the PBS Vehicle Approval Removal of Operator Name Application form (PDF, 162KB).

Remove vehicles from a PBS VA

Do you need to remove a sold or unused vehicle from your PBS VA?

If you've sold a vehicle or no longer use a vehicle listed on your PBS Vehicle Approval,  and wish to remove it, complete the PBS Vehicle Removal Application form (PDF, 189KB).

Add vehicles to a PBS VA

Have you recently acquired a new vehicle, such as a prime mover, truck, trailer, or dolly, and want to add it to your PBS VA?

To include it in your current PBS VA, follow these steps:

  • Contact an authorised PBS Certifier to initiate the addition of your new vehicle(s) to your VA. The Certifier will evaluate the vehicle(s) you wish to add and guide you through the necessary steps. Please note that Certifiers do charge a fee for this service.
  • Understand the potential impact on your Access permit(s); Be aware that adding new vehicle(s) to your PBS VA may result in a change to your PBS VA number. If your PBS VA number changes and you have an Access permit that references this number, you will be required to reapply for your Access permit using the new PBS VA number.

Expedite the issuing of a PBS VA (Escalation Request)

Do you require urgent processing for your PBS Vehicle Approval application that has already been submitted to the NHVR?

Here's how you can request an expedited processing:

  • Confirm that your PBS Vehicle Approval application has been lodged with the NHVR and that you have received a confirmation email with the application details. The PBS Certifier may have lodged an application on your behalf.
  • If you have valid reasons for needing an expedited issuance of a PBS VA you can submit a PBS Vehicle Approval Escalation Request form (PDF, 215KB).

Updating the tyre options on a PBS VA (generic tyre approach)

The generic tyre approach was introduced on 1 December 2022, offering greater flexibility for PBS vehicles.

If your current PBS VA shows a specific 'Tyre Options List' with specific sizes, brands, and models, in accordance with the generic tyre approach, the vehicle can be fitted with any brand and model of tyre, if the tyre matches the size, load rating, and configuration for the specified axle position on your PBS VA.

There's no need to update your existing PBS VA. All existing PBS vehicles, including those with a specific 'Tyre Options List', are automatically deemed to comply with the generic tyre approach.
