I would like to remove the operator name from PBS Vehicle Approval (VA). What is the process?
Operators may choose to remove an operator name from their existing PBS Vehicle Approval (VA) for various reasons, including:
- the PBS VA was issued prior to 14 November 2022.
- Ease of using the VA by subcontractors and/or for access permit applications.
- If the company name has changed and wants to remove the old company name from the VA (ABN/ACN must remain the same).
Complete the PBS Vehicle Approval Removal of Operator Name Application form (PDF, 162KB) to request the removal of the operator name from an existing PBS Vehicle Approval (VA).
Email the completed form to pbs@nhvr.gov.au with the subject line ‘Remove Operator Name Request'.
All fields in the application form must be filled in. The request will not be processed unless the application form is complete. There is no fee associated with this request.
The following parties are eligible to lodge a request to remove an operator name from a VA:
- the current operator listed on the VA,
- an authorised PBS Certifier,
- the Design Approval holder.
Note: It is not mandatory to remove the operator name from a VA if the name on the VA matches the company that operates the vehicles listed on the VA.
What happens after I submit my form?
After we receive your PBS Vehicle Approval Removal of Operator Name Application form, we will send you a confirmation email, typically within one business day.
If you don't receive a confirmation email within one business day, please send a follow-up email to pbs@nhvr.gov.au. Note that the confirmation email will be sent to the email provided on the form. If it was lodged by a PBS Certifier, please follow up with them.
The amended VA will have the operator name removed with a new version of the same VA number. The amended VA will be sent to the email address provided in the remove operator form.
Existing access permits associated with the VA will remain valid.
Changes to the requirement for an operator name on a PBS VA
The operator name was formerly listed on the front page of the PBS VA.
As of 14 November 2022, PBS VAs no longer display the operator name on the front page. A VA is now an authorisation to the vehicles listed in it, regardless of who owns or operates them.

I want to transfer my PBS VA. What is the process?
If you have recently purchased an existing PBS combination, please refer to Transfer of PBS Vehicle Approval.
