NHVR hits the road to explain new national law

20-11-2013

With Australia’s first heavy vehicle rule book to commence on 10 February 2014, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) will hit the road next week to explain the new national law to industry’s frontline.

NHVR CEO, Richard Hancock says the NHVR already had a proven track record of engagement with the heavy vehicle industry and was grateful for the continued support from all industry sectors for the new national law.

“Industry has kept the faith, and with the date set for the new rule book, now is the time to meet with operators and drivers across the country to explain in detail what this means for them and how to do business with us,” said Mr Hancock.

NHVR staff will host forums in capital city and key regional locations in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, all jurisdictions where the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) will commence early next year.

Mr Hancock said attendees can expect to hear about streamlined and practical operations for heavy vehicle access, fatigue management and vehicle inspection standards, as well as more consistent on-road compliance and enforcement outcomes; all matters that affect the day-to-day business of Australia’s heavy vehicle operators and drivers.

“We will also be unveiling details of our Access Management System and Journey Planner, two key components of the one-stop-shop for access permit applications, “said Mr Hancock.

Dates, locations and details of how to RSVP for the industry forums are available at https://www.nhvr.gov.au/news-events/stakeholder-events.

Based in Brisbane, the NHVR currently manages National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) services and Performance-Based Standards (PBS) design and vehicle approvals.
