Investigations

The NHVR Investigations team undertakes investigations into serious contraventions of the HVNL, with a core focus on the primary safety duties of parties in the chain of responsibility (CoR) in all participating jurisdictions. These activities are aimed at achieving a safe, efficient, and productive heavy vehicle industry serving the needs of Australia.

The Investigations team mission:
To be the leader in national heavy vehicle road safety by investigating CoR compliance with professionalism and integrity.

The NHVR defines an investigation as: The unbiased gathering and analysis of information and evidence about a situation and/or state of affairs to enable proper assessment to support appropriate decision-making or guide further actions.

In this section of the site, you will find information about investigations conducted by the NHVR including; the types of offences investigated, the process of an investigation, possible results of an investigation including education, non-punitive enforcement, or prosecution outcomes as well as the team’s contact information.

Our Investigations team prioritises investigations into serious breaches of the primary safety duties committed by parties in the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and their executives. Amongst other measures, serious breaches may be avoided, if parties in the CoR follow the reasonably practicable measures outlined in the Master Code.

Reports can be made to the NHVR’s Heavy Vehicle Confidential Reporting Line (HVCRL) in relation to safety issues involving procedures, practices or conditions in the heavy vehicle transport industry and its supply chain that might endanger the safety of a heavy vehicle driver, their passengers, road users or the community at large.

The NHVR Investigations team is a group of skilled investigators based in Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales. For more information please contact us.
