Updating drivers

The updated Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and new Heavy Vehicle Accreditation (HVA) scheme take effect on 1 August 2026. From this date, the NHVR will no longer have authority to grant any new NHVAS accreditation. During this transition you will still be able to update your drivers under NHVAS. For more information on how to update your drivers under the HVA scheme, please refer to Manage your HVA scheme.

When adding drivers to existing fatigue accreditation, you must:

  • induct the new driver into your Fatigue Management System
  • provide them with a copy of your accreditation certificate
  • provide them with a letter stating that
    • they are operating under your accreditation
    • that they have been inducted into your management system
    • that they meet all of the requirements as driver operating under your accreditation.

If you hold BFM or AFM accreditation, you are required to always maintain a current list of drivers and their details and be able to produce that list upon request; you can use NHVR Go login as your driver list. Each time you have a change to drivers operating under your fatigue management accreditation, you need to update your driver list.

You are not required to inform us each time your driver list is changed; however, you will need to provide an up-to-date driver list when applying to establish or maintain a fatigue management accreditation.
