Lodge your application for in-principle support, approval to modify a heavy vehicle, or for an exemption from a heavy vehicle standard through NHVR Go.

NHVR Go provides a simple, seamless process for lodging your application. You can attach all relevant engineer's reports, photos, diagrams or vehicle schematics. All applications, including those still in draft, will be saved in your account.

Review a decision - If you are dissatisfied with a decision on a vehicle standards exemption (permit), a company or person affected by the decision (a dissatisfied person) may seek an internal review of the NHVR decision.

Approval to modify a heavy vehicle

For operators or owners of heavy vehicles who are seeking approval to modify a heavy vehicle where the modification is outside the NHVR Code of Practice for the Approval of Heavy Vehicle Modifications.

Exemption from compliance with a heavy vehicle standard

For operators or owners who are seeking an exemption from compliance with a heavy vehicle standard applying to a vehicle.

Fees

The NHVR does not charge for vehicle standards applications. However, operators and owners will incur fees and charges for third-party services associated with vehicle modification, certification and inspection.

In-principle Support for non-standard road vehicles

For operators or owners of non-standard road vehicles (such as Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs)) who are seeking In-principle Support for the registration and use of the vehicle.

Vehicle standards exemption notice

For a state or territory road transport authority applying to the NHVR to issue a vehicle standards exemption (notice) for a category of vehicles to use roads in that jurisdiction.
