Special Purpose Vehicle permit

Do you need a Special Purpose Vehicle Permit?

You will need to apply for a class 1 Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) permit if your SPV does not comply with mass, dimension or operating requirements set out in a gazette notice.

The NHVR processes ALL SPV permit applications for travel within and between the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria through the NHVR Portal

Note: Operators should check that their vehicle complies with the schedules and conditions in the relevant gazette notice as your permit will reference those same conditions.

For travel within the Northern Territory and Western Australia you need to apply directly to the relevant state or territory road transport authority.

NHVR Portal SPV Lockdown Functionality

The NHVR and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have worked together to input the SPV Authority To Operate data into the NHVR Portal.

The NHVR Portal SPV Lockdown functionality will allow customers to complete their registration details which will then automatically populate the axle mass and spacing fields.

This functionality will assist industry when completing the application process in the NHVR Portal and ensure the accurate details are being provided. This will therefore contribute to making the overall process more efficient and streamlined.

QLD Class 1 Crane Permit Scheme
