AFM was available as an accreditation module prior to the Heavy Vehicle National Law changing on 1 August 2026. Operators with existing AFM accreditation may continue to operate under the conditions of their accreditation certificate until it expires, it is cancelled, or they transition to the Heavy Vehicle Accreditation scheme.
The maximum work times and minimum rest times for AFM drivers are set out on the operator's AFM accreditation certificate.
When drivers are operating under AFM they must always carry:
- a copy of the accreditation certificate
- a letter of induction
- a work diary (unless exempt).
Alternative Compliance Accreditation – Fatigue (ACA-Fatigue) is a Heavy Vehicle Accreditation (HVA) scheme for operators of fatigue-regulated heavy vehicles who need different work and rest hours for drivers. It replaces the previous NHVAS Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) and Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM) modules and is available from 1 August 2026.
