Access to the Intercept Outcomes Tool will progressively be rolled out gradually. Operators accredited under the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) have been granted initial access. Broader industry access will be provided in a later phase.
The Intercept Outcomes Tool (IOT) is available within NHVR Go and is designed to provide operators with transparent access to regulator-held intercept information. This includes details of each intercept and associated compliance outcomes. This increased visibility will help support the industry in meeting safety requirements and effectively self-manage its compliance.
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) worked closely with industry operators to build, test and refine the IOT based on real-world feedback.
The IOT will progressively be rolled out to industry:
- Xx March – available to all NHVAS accredited operators.
- Available to the broader industry at a later date.

FAQs
What is the IOT?
The IOT is an online reporting tool within NHVR Go that provides operators with visibility of NHVR-conducted intercepts and their outcomes for vehicles in their fleet linked to their NHVR Go account.
How do I access the IOT?
Operators must first link all their registrations via the NHVR Go Registration Module. Without completing this step, the operator will not be able to view any data in the IOT.
Step-by-step guidance is available in the NHVR Go training videos on the Registration Services Module.
The IOT is located within NHVR Go under the Compliance Module (Compliance > Reports > Analytical reports). Operators will be able to view intercept outcomes for all registrations they’ve linked to their NHVR Go account.
Please note : All information in the NHVR Go Registration Module is received from the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS) via the relevant state or territory transport authority the heavy vehicle is registered in. If there is an error with the registration data, we recommend contacting the relevant state or territory transport authority responsible for the registration of the vehicle.
Who can access the IOT?
From xx March 2026, access is available to NHVAS-accredited operators as part of a staged rollout.
There will be broader industry access later in 2026.
Is there a cost to use the tool?
No. The IOT is free to access to use through NHVR Go.
Will all intercepts be visible in the tool?
No. Only intercepts conducted by the NHVR will be visible.
Some of the reasons operators may not see an intercept or intercept outcomes include:
- it is new and the data has not yet been updated
- it is historical in nature and not available
- the NHVR did not conduct the intercept.
Will I be able to view all defect information?
For defects, the tool is only able to display information received by the relevant NHVR systems. Operators may not see a defect if it is newly issued and the data has not yet been updated. If it relates to historical information which is no longer available, or if the NHVR has not been provided with the relevant details operators will not be able to view it.
Currently, only defect notices issued by the following authorities are visible:
- NHVR
- Previous state or territory transport authorities under the HVNL (prior to transition of road services to the NHVR)
- South Australia Police (SAPOL)
What information does the IOT provide?
Operators will get visibility of the following:
- vehicle particulars (VIN/chassis number, plate number)
- the State the vehicle was intercepted/defect notice issued
- the date and time the vehicle was intercepted
- date the compliance action (i.e., defects, infringement, education, etc.) was issued
- defect notice number
- National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual (NHVIM) component affected
- defect severity
- the number of offences identified within the intercept
- the offence category (i.e., mechanical, fatigue, registration, mass, etc.)
- HVNL risk level (i.e., minor, substantial, severe, critical).
Why is the same defect notice showing multiple times?
When an issued defect notice includes multiple defects, each defect will appear as an individual line in the IOT. You can quickly identify this by checking the defect number and the date of issue.
Will an operator be able to clear defects or action an infringement notice through NHVR Go?
No. The IOT is a platform to view intercept outcomes and compliance actions issued to heavy vehicles.
Defects must still be cleared through the process specified by the relevant state or territory transport authority. Further information on heavy vehicle defects and the clearance process can be found at Heavy Vehicle Defects webpage.
Current review and payment processes detailed on the infringement notices should be followed.
Can an operator print an infringement/defect notice?
No. This function is not currently available through NHVR Go. Operators are encouraged to put processes in place to ensure their drivers report non-compliant intercepts in a timely manner. For notices issued by other agencies, operators should contact the issuing authority directly to obtain a copy.
How often is the IOT updated?
The IOT is updated daily for intercept details and compliance outcomes issued by the NHVR. Defects issued by external state or territory agencies may take longer as the system is dependent on those agencies providing the data.
I can see a non-compliant intercept; however, there is no associated compliance action entry?
This can occur if you own a vehicle that was part of a combination found to be non-compliant during an intercept, but the compliance action was issued to another entity based on responsibility for the non-compliance. In these cases, the compliance action details will not be visible to you and will only be visible to the owner of the non-compliant vehicle.
There is an error in the IOT. Who do I contact?
NHVR Go accurately reflects all internal NHVR records. If you find an error, please contact us directly so that we can investigate further.
For defects that are issued by external agencies, the NHVR is unable to update or rectify this information. If you find an error or missing information, you must contact the agency directly. It is important to keep records of your defect clearances in addition to using the IOT.
Please note: Due to variations in processing by the respective issuing agencies, a cleared defect may not be reflected in NHVR Go immediately.
I have linked my registrations, why can’t I see the IOT in NHVR Go?
From xx March 2026, access to the IOT will be limited to operators accredited under the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS). This forms part of a staged rollout to test the tool and gather industry feedback. The tool will be made available to the broader industry at a later date.
