Freight PASS - Beta

Freight PASS - Beta (8 Jan) (XLSM, 5.5MB)

Freight PASS uses more than one million registration data records to assess a range of performance factors for conventional and Performance Based Standards (PBS) vehicles including crash likelihood, trip numbers and travel time, and fuel consumption.

The Freight PASS tool has been updated since its original release on 17 October 2023. The previous version of the tool automatically updated calculations to the “present year”. As we are now in 2024, because some data does not yet exist, some outputs read as an error. This issue has now been resolved. Please ensure you use the Beta version dated 8 January 2024.

Why we consulted

Freight PASS will improve the speed, accuracy and consistency when making decisions about using safer and more productive vehicles, to meet Australia’s growing freight task (forecasted to grow 77 per cent by 2050) and Vision Zero safety and Net Zero emission targets.

Freight PASS has been designed to:

  • Enable users to specify a freight task scenario and compare over 200 common freight combinations.
  • Estimate and compare the performance of the combinations against 14 productivity, safety and sustainability measures, specifically curated to assist industry and road managers to better understand the long-term effects of road freight activity.
  • Use data and methods that road managers trust and already use as part of their transport, infrastructure and economic evaluations (e.g. from Austroads and the Australian Transport Assessment and Planning Guidelines).
  • Visualise results in a series of graphs and scorecards, with full accessibility of the back-end.
