More than 10 heavy vehicle operators today participated in a demonstration day with six regional Queensland councils to build awareness and a greater understanding of the benefits of the Performance Based Standards (PBS) Scheme.
NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto said the heavy vehicle industry took the opportunity to meet with council representatives at a demonstration day for high productivity heavy vehicles hosted by the Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils.
“It was excellent to show the local community what these vehicles mean for their economy and how they can benefit from their use,” Mr Petroccitto said.
“We are working with councils right across Australia to highlight how high productivity heavy vehicles are safer and smarter.
“These vehicles can deliver the same amount of freight for less trips with reduced emissions and overall impact on local roads.”
Local governments represented were Bundaberg, Cherbourg, Fraser Coast, Gympie, North Burnett and South Burnett regional councils.
Bundaberg Mayor Cr Jack Dempsey said the demonstration day was an excellent initiative that would assist local councils to make decisions about their road network.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the NHVR to better understand the advantages of having vehicles of this capability on our local roads,” he said.
Forsyth Transport Director Lex Forsyth said it was great to showcase high productivity vehicles and demonstrate how they benefit not only the local freight task but the community.
“It was great to be a part of a day that involves decision makers in councils and the NHVR,” he said.
The demonstration day in Bundaberg was the first of its kind by the NHVR.
