The NHVR has approved a minor wording change to Standard 4 of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) allowing operators to use alternative documents to record the completion of an annual vehicle inspection.
The NHVR approved the change after operators sought to reduce the duplication of existing process within their systems by allowing an alternative to the NHVR Heavy Vehicle Inspection checklist.
The new Standard 4 wording reads:
All nominated vehicles must undergo an annual mechanical inspection that is recorded using the NHVR Heavy Vehicle Inspection Checklist or another document or documents, provided that the alternative documents record the results of each of the required checks (as identified on the NHVR Heavy Vehicle Inspection Checklist) and the record of results is capable of being clearly identified upon review.
For any operator choosing to use alternative documents, you must ensure the alternative documentation covers all of the checks identified on the Heavy Vehicle Inspection Checklist (Maintenance Management Standard 4) (PDF, 87KB)
The latest version of the rules and standards (Version 3.1) along with an updated Maintenance Management Guide can be found on our NHVAS Business Rules and Standards page.
