The National Audit Standard (NAS) along with the Safety Management System Standard (SMS Standard) and Present, Suitable, Operating and Effective (PSOE) method work together to form the Heavy Vehicle Accreditation (HVA) scheme. Auditors approved to conduct audits under the NAS against the SMS Standard will be required to use the PSOE audit method from 1 August 2026.
The HVA scheme introduces a new tiered accreditation framework comprising General Safety Accreditation (GSA) and Alternative Compliance Accreditation (ACA).
